In a turn of events that I am sure will shock and astonish all of you, here's the one that hit:
3. Regency AUs crack me up:
a. Dashing Rake!Adam, Virgin!Kris in town for his first season.
b. Country squire Kris thinks Lord Lambert has wronged his, hm, adopted sister?Allison, only to discover Adam is not the type to be interested in deflowering *girls*, and Allison can take care of *herself*, thank you very much.
c. Kris as a gentleman in a hopeless romance with wrong-side-of-the tracks!Adam (Who is a chorus
girlboy! And *Jewish*! Oh noes!)
These three all glommed together, rolled into my longstanding impulse to fix-it Heyer's A Civil Contract (simultaneously one of the best and most infuriating of her books! Jenny is so awesome! she deserves GRAND HEROIC LOVE OKAY), and out came this.
It, uh, grew?
A Matter of Inconvenience (21,000 words)
Kris just laughed. "Do you get—we're talking twenty thousand pounds at least just to clear the debts?"
"Yes," Anoop said. "There's a way."
"Who do I have to kill?" Kris said, dryly.
"Not kill," Anoop said. "Marry."
(Read the story on the AO3!)
(not on my website yet because this in-flight service, awesome though it is, does not allow ftp upload! It'll be up there later tonight, but I can't pass up POSTING FROM THE SKIES. All comments loved either on the AO3 or here! ♥)
Thank you so much again to teneagles for the donation -- I hope you like it! -- and to Merry, Mia, Julad, resonant, and everyone else I forced to read this thing while it clawed its way to the finish line. <3
