I generally do not like Hemingway-esque writing. But apparently it is merely a question of the subject matter, because this was bloody entrancing. :-)

The first thing that went through my mind when Chase talked about the "things" that Jack had put himself though was: "Oh my God, I bet you anything they raped the poor bastard!" The immediate next thought was, "Oh, damn, there's no way we get to see that."

And this scene was perfect. Exactly how I have envisioned WOULD envision something like that happening. :-)

and it would have taken that to break Jack, he's so hard when it comes to beatings we all know they wouldn't have worked, it was great to see him written acting and talking like he does. Brilliant!

*ahem* What I mean to say is: this is disturbingly well-written, and makes a great deal of sense -- clearly Jack lost something of himself in Mexico, and a "mere" brutal rape would have been horrible but wouldn't have touched him at his core. A rape which was perversely pleasurable -- that would shake his self-image and leave him unsure of himself in a way that he's probably never been before. It would break him, in fact.

You get over both the pleasure and the humiliation very, very well. Brava!
