Vividcon, The Adversary, Solsbury Hill remaster

Back from Vividcon! \o/ I have neither energy nor time for a full report, but wow, I just had such a great con. ♥

Also, I must report that [info]svmadelyn and [info]seperis are evil, evil people. :( :( :(

Here are five vids which you should watch the second the vidders put them online:
[info]sisabet's Falling For The First Time (SPN) -- My auction vid! \o/ I feel I have done good in the world. lie in wait

[info]dualbunny's Cosmia (Pan's Labyrinth) -- Just dazzling. It feels like a labyrinth. You must ALSO see her vid Tragedy (BTVS), which is just -- words fail. Bee Gees + Spike = AWESOME. lie in wait

[info]sockkpuppett's Vogue (300) -- A fabulous fuck-you to Frank Miller. ♥ now posted!

[info]destina's Want (SPN) -- Blew me the hell away. Also, I love whoever suggested the meta interpretation (that it could be from *fandom's* POV). ETA: now posted!
(Those "lie in wait" links will take you to the subscription center where you can thumbtack the vidders' ljs for email notification when they get back from the con and post!)

And here's my own premiere vid:

The Adversary
right-click save (23 MB xvid).
Twin Peaks
song by Crime and the City Solution

[info]killabeez gave me this song and said "Twin Peaks!" I think, uh, four Vividcons ago? Since then I have been waiting and waiting for season two to come out on DVD, and finally the gods of dvd releases have smiled upon me. (Witchblade next? please?)

I also remastered my Stargate SG-1 vid Solsbury Hill (the parts that used footage from late season 5 of SG-1), so it is now using all shiny dvd source.

Solsbury Hill remaster
right-click save 23 MB xvid

(Unfortunately, imeem's audio fingerprinting system is taking down Solsbury Hill, I think because the audio isn't edited -- so it's not up there at present. I'll see if there's some way to get it to go up.) Never mind, it seems to have gone up on a second try with nothing changed. *perplexed*

eta: I've taken down the imeem streaming links, since those jerks decided not just to ditch our videos but to replace them with ADS, wtaf.

TWIN PEAKS VID, OMG!! *squeals inarticulately*
Holy crap, A, that gave me CHILLS. *rubs at goosebumps*

TP was probably the first show I was truly fannish about, even though I'd never heard of fandom way back then. And I've never had such a visceral reaction to an onscreen character before the way I do to Bob. *shudders* (Okay, except for Dennis Hopper as Frank in Blue Velvet.)

This is just SO AWESOME. And now I want lots and lots of TP vids. *wants*
Yes, yes, I also was WILDLY and uninformedly *g* fannish about TP. Doing the vid was pretty weird actually, because the last time I saw TP was when it was airing live and I was in high school and had no fannish pals, and I missed a TON -- it is amazing how different the show seems to me now after such a wide gap. (although I am still totally all over the Cooper/Audrey!)
(although I am still totally all over the Cooper/Audrey!)

Oh God, me too. Self-insertion much? *shifty eyes*
By the way, [info]onelittlesleep wrote an AWESOME SPN/TP crossover fic a while back, Tell Your Heart That I'm the One. It's Dean, het, R rated, and it's just magic.
Ooooooooh, shiny new LJ feature! I wonder if it works for communities! This is great: this way, I could monitor communities for new fic without having to friend them!

Yet another reason why LJ is convenient and this whole *makes vague exasperated gesture* LJ vs Fandom thing is annoying in so many ways.
YAY you are back!

Also, you hadn't realized they were evil already? *g*
Fantastic Twin Peaks vid. That show was certainly a feast of strange imagery, all of which you've made more sense of than the show did, I think.
That fit together so well. It was eerie and enigmatic and beautiful and sad, just like the show.

And now, I won't sleep tonight. The image of BOB crawling over the couch remains one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen.
*jumps in*

The image of BOB crawling over the couch remains one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen.

I know, right? I almost couldn't watch that part. Every molecule in my body was screaming "FLEEEEE!!" *shivers happily*
I actually DIDN't watch that part! Heh. I saw it flick to the living room scene and I was like OH NOT AGAIN and I covered the screen. I am such a pathetic scardy-cat loser. But I swear that scene scared me for years.

The vid was fabulous, though!! *goes off to comment properly below*
vids. squee!

re iMeem's audio fingerprinting - it does not prevent you from uploading music. what it does is check your audio against a database of songs they have licensed for full play. if the song is in the database, the song goes up and anyone can listen to it. if not, the song still goes up - and only you can hear the entire song once you're logged in. everyone else hears just 30 sec.

having said this, something in their system is taking down vids - just in very random manner. ex they take down vids set to music they have licensed for full play. they leave up vids set to songs they do not. they take down heavily audio edited songs. they leave up unedited songs etc etc. we really have no clue what their system is doing - or why - or even if it is related to any IP issues at all. so...I am with you on the perplexed.
Yep, Bob appearing in mirrors and creeping his way over the couch freaks me out just as much as it did however many years ago. I shouldn't have watched that before bed!
TWIN PEEEAAAKS!!!
I watched it without scrolling down to see the title/source (because I'm impatient like that) and as soon as I heard "Diane, it's 11:05 PM" I actually GASPED IN JOY.

So awesome. Except BOB. BOB is scary.
[scrambles to get away]
you have absolutely made my day with that beautiful, eerie twin peaks vid. you've also revived one of my first tv obsessions almost single-handedly. i am right, smack in the middle of a total dale cooper love fest *in my mind* because of you.

thank you.
I really enjoyed your vid Solsbury Hill.
Your editing is gorgeous on the Twin Peaks vid - the music really works with how creepily atmospheric that show was. (And it's so cool to see that footage again - I had a couple friends who worked on that, and we used to watch it religiously when it was on!)
oh WOW. The Adversary completely blew me away. It's by far the best VVC vid I've seen yet (even though that's not saying much because hey, it's you, and you are my vidding god), and I absolutely cannot articulate how much I love and adore and am in awe of this vid. First of all, you got the footage to move; second, TP has never been this coherent. You somehow took the essence of Bob and poured it all into this vid. It's downright terrifying and I think David Lynch himself would be proud. This is just brilliant, brilliant work. Did I mention I worship the ground you walk on? Goodness.
Magnificently creepy Twin Peaks vid--perfectly capturing the show!
I periodically forget how much I loved SG-1 and seeing young, enthusiastic!Daniel has reminded me. Thank you.
It was a great con, those vids are all awesome (as is that subscription option, which I'd heard vague rumors about but had no idea how it worked or where to access it, so yay and thanks!), and -- I suggested at In-Depth Review that Want could also be read as from fandom's POV *g*

I can't believe I have to get back to work instead of watching vids ALL WEEK. Bah.
Oh hey, I hadn't seen 'Solsbury Hill' before. It's wonderful!
Hi, I found this while poking around for Vividcon reports, and I just have to gush over the Twin Peaks vid, which is gorgeous and does an amazing job of capturing the mood of the show. I don't think I've ever seen a TP vid before, which is just *wrong* since it is such a beautiful, visually interesting series. Anyway, great job!
Lovely. All the hands...
Twin Peaks! You chose many of the shots that have always stuck with me and were the creepiest of all... i still can't stand to see Bob crawling over the couch or the hand coming down the stairs. You did a great job of finding the right shots for tone and weirdness and richness.

Makes me miss the show. It was a ground breaker for television in so many respects and I so loved Kyle MacLachlan. Miguel Ferrer, too.

Sigh
Hi! This is totally off topic, but I'm a big fan of your stories and just started my own livejournal. Would you mind if I friended you to keep up with your entries?
Oh, the TP vid is amazing! Really, really brilliant!
TWIN PEAKS OMG! And the song is so perfect!!! SQUEEE!!!
Beautifully creepy. And wow, did that ever make me feel nostalgic, so long since I saw Twin Peaks - I was hooked on it at the time.
Twin Peaks was I think the most powerful exploration of the nature of evil, as well as the unexpected grace and strength of good people, that I've ever seen in a television series. I remember watching the murder of Laura's cousin in horror and terror and thinking, incredulously, that there were people watching shows on other channels at the exact same time and not even realising that this incredibly profound event was happening and should be witnessed. It's like bearing witness to a natural disaster or a terrorist act: painful and difficult, but necessary, both to understand the nature of the event, and to pay tribute to the victims. So, anyway, great vid to a great song choice.
this is good. i like it.
Twin Peaks vid: oh so excellent.

I apologize for not being able to watch Bob crawl over the couch--but I watched every other second of it and thought it was wonderful. I love the way that both Laura and Bob haunt the vid just as they haunted the show--in bits and pieces, yet they are always there. The moment in which Laura's father is dancing is perfect.

I agree with other posters that you've improved on the coherence of the imagery while perfectly capturing the tone of the show.

I'm thrilled that there is a Twin Peaks vid, and I'm extra pleased it's as great as this one.

Hey.

Love the vid to bits. Just recced it here. Twin Peaks was the cause of my first fannish urges (it took me another eight or so years to really find fandom, though), so it'll always have a special place in my heart, and the video captures the essence of the show perfectly. Also, rather eerily, the song has been linked to Twin Peaks in my mind since I was a teenager! I heard it for the first time in the same year that I discovered the show, because it was on a cd my dad used to listen to a lot that year.

(I also really like Kid Fears, Jig of Life and A Day in the Life - although I'm a lukewarm Star Wars fan at best, not a Witchblade fan at all, and haven't even *seen* the Dead Zone. *g* The rest of your vids I haven't watched yet, because in most cases I don't even have a passing familiarity with the source.)
I just watched Adversary thanks to [info]strangefandom and wanted to say it's fantastic -- eerie and beautiful and disturbing all at once.
oh wow. that twin peaks vid is just amazing - creepy & awesome, and just so gorgeous.
I found "The Adversary" yesterday, somehow via randomly browsing around LJ. Watched it - it was 11pm. I didn't go to sleep for 2 more hours (and I get up at 4am).

I believe I have to rewatch the series now.

That was a very very nice vid, even if I my cat complained that I should stop clutching her quite so hard. :)

(I generally enjoy all the vids of yours that I watch, and all the fic of yours that I read. I should feedback more)
