Supernatural: Generosity

I am attempting to post this from the train via blackberry! \o/

With many thanks to [info]cesperanza and [info]destina, whose original post for [info]family_secret inspired this, although it is not for any of the challenge prompts.

Generosity (1700 words)
Adult, Sam/Dean

John had traded away the gun; he'd have traded away more, and he was still feeling the cold dread of the moment when the demon had cocked its head like a pistol and said, "You know, I'm feeling generous today," because if it hadn't taken more, that was only because it figured what was in store was going to be worse.

Ouch! Owowow. But you know, it's somehow okay, because Sam and Dean are rock-solid, and I love that beyond measure. :D
Oh wow. That just hurts and is perfect all at the same time.
Dude.
Oh, man.
I loved Dean's last call, i loved hunters talking about them...
I loved John's slow realization and i loved the boys waking up fast and *ready*.

And i love/hated how they just...shut him out. Done, over.
*sniffle*
Excellent stuff.
Whoa.

I wanted something good when I opened up the flist. And boy I got something good. Ohhhhhhhhh damn, I got something good. The moment when they both pull their guns on him? Startling. Awesome. You rock, as always.
Oh, the imagery and spacebuilding here is just fantastic. I love the little things that John picks up and that he misses.

Be aware, the links from the story doesn't properly lead back here, just to your journal itself.
thank you, all fixed! technology failed me; I could not do it from the train. :/
I liked that a lot.
I love this. Protective Dean is one of my most favorite Deans, and it's so telling that he'll even defend Sam against their father...and that little moment where Sam tucks his head against Dean's hip just made me sigh and clutch my heart.

Bittersweet and gorgeous and so so good. Thank you for sharing it.
Jesus, that's fantastic. And horrible. And fantastic. Just... that description of them, taking in the situation, followed by the clinical observation He could have taken out his gun and shot them both where they lay before Dean ever put his hand on that shotgun.

That's a hell of a twist on the Wincest, and for that I salute you.
Awwww. Love it. I have always wanted to read a John reaction piece.
Oho, that was good. Everything flows so nicely, from the language to John's discovery, and of course I adored the moment Dean stood up to John for Sam--it's a huge issue in the show, how Dean always follows John's orders, and this takes the revelation that Dean does it for Sam and runs with it. Loyalty smashes my buttons so hard.

Sorta like the idea of John just being so completely done with them smashes other things.

And you get deliciously shallow lust-noises made at you for the image of Sam curled up by Dean's hip. Oh yes. Thank you!
OW, woman! That hurt!!

(/me rereads it for the fifth time)

OW! Stop that!

Hang on, let me read it again....
this is my third. in the last week and a half. if this keeps on i may have to admit addiction...
Dean said, "Don't you look at him like that."

Guh.
I love John here...there's no way that walking in on that wouldn't break your heart as a parent. Doesn't matter how hot we might find wincest, there's no way he'd be anything but horrified and lost finding this out about his *kids*.
*weeps* Good stuff.
I love that Dean doesn't even flinch. I love that Sam's the one reaching out to his dad. I love John's puke steaming in the snow.
I like this because (despite the technical POV being John's) you get both perspectives on everything: The comfort and safety that Sam and Dean have found in each other vs. John's complete parental horror about the situation; John's reasons for leaving vs. the heartbreak of two kids abandoned by their remaining parent. It's really well done.
Holy hell, that hurt.
So much compact emotion and tragedy, it's impossible to not ache for all of them. Perfectly conceived and gorgeously written.
Oh, *ouch*.

And Dean. Doing it all for Sam. Even standing up against their father. *clenches*
oh my god, lsakjfhdasf sweet jesus, you're good.
This is seriously far and away on of the best, and my very favorite, John-finds-out stories. The scene of Dean and Sam at the end is simply gorgeous, and the way John hears about the work they've been doing, and the fact that they have embraced the job, and I just love it all to itty bitty bits. <333
Ouch. But oh, Dean protecting Sam, and Sam smiling in his sleep, and oh. Lovely.
Wow. One of the best John finds out ever.
Really nice. Loved it.

Uh...

Um... like... wow. -K
Oh oh man. This packed a seriously powerful punch, I loved it. It really highlights how misguided John is. I mean he has a lot of good in him, but he doesn't really understand what to do with it, where he is really needed.
OK, so he was shocked, fine, he walked away, threw up, collected his thoughts, thought about how he could be really far away from this unexpected and shocking development.. but do you really think he'd actually leave?! maybe he'd go back and make an awkward joke or something, try to talk to them? I mean, he'd do anything for them! And I just rewatched IMToD, and he knew a lot that he never told them, maybe even about Mary & YED and Other Generations... John would never just give up on his family and walk away, he'd try again, unless in his head he somehow though he was protecting them?..
