I'm gonna hit the highway like a battering ram
On a silver black phantom bike
When the metal is hot and the engine is hungry
And we're all about to see the light
( Read the story )
Yes, I do love The Postman concept. :D

Poor Impala. :(
I love how even when it's saved, the world is broken. I love how they run into their own shadows by accident, stretched tall and awe-inspiring. I love how nothing changes and everything does. I love how they bring her with them, in pieces and part. I love how Sam vomiting is a fact like fire causing smoke is a fact, and how "hello" is almost as dangerous as a gunshot. Beautiful. Thank you.
But SPN is fiction, in its most glorious form, and I'm so attached to the car, that I'm willing to forgive.
The beauty of fan fiction is that it allows us to reconcile those two competing impulses, and this story does that mightily. I would have been content if the story had ended in the first section because it was an elegant ode to the car we've all come to love. I mean, if you stopped to think about how much gas it takes to keep using the Impala for cross country trips, you'd see it makes no sense at all, and yet, I don't care I want more Impala. However, at some point in the future, the reality of a post-apocalyptic world would make it impractical, and the dignity this story accords its end pays fitting homage.
Now, much as I said that I'd be fine if you'd stopped after the first section, that's meant to say that I liked that section that much. The fact that we got a story, and a good one at that, after that--well, that's like gravy.
Absolutely beautiful, thank you for writing.
I'm such a sucker for post apocalypse fics. I can't help it. I'm the same with movies yet I've never actually seen the Postman.
*mourns the Impala, Dean's baby*
I think, actually, that you should just put all your fandoms through the Apocalypse. You do it so well.
(and okay, I always cried for Max's car and his dog too, but not like I do whenever the Impala is hurt)
And it made me cry, at the end. Though I won't admit it if you ask me later.
Great little glimpses of what happened (and is it wrong to think 'woot! Apocalypse!'?) and how everyone's dealing with it, and how even in a demon-free world, the boys are still taking care of what unpleasantness is left.
Loved, loved, loved this. I am totally having one of those "fandom is the best thing ever" days now. *g*
